Originally shared by Jeffrey Dechape 2023: BICHLORIDE OF MERCURY is fatal to Dale, NY Girl: Dale Sep 20, 1931 - Services were held Sat for Miss Bernice Austin of Dale, NY, 19, daughter of Mr & Mrs Charles Austin of this village, who died in St Jerome's hospital of bichloride of mercury poisoning. Coroner Edward N Morgan of Batavia issued a certificate of accidental death. Miss Austin was visiting in LeRoy, NY Sun, Sep6, when she took a bichloride of mercury tablet. She told the hospital authorities the tablet was mistaken for a soda mint pill. Miss Austi had been employed for the past year and a half as a telephone operator on the Batavia exchange.
